El objetivo de este trabajo es presentar las aportaciones de diferentes ciencias al estudio de la complejidad, a fi n de entender el origen de conceptos que se han vuelto muy comunes en otras disciplinas, tales como: redes geonómicas, paisaje de aptitud, tensión disipativa, mecanismos de adaptación, gradiente de entropía, enredo quántico, caos determinista, autoorganización, perturbación, autopoiesis, clausura operativa, acoplamiento, variedad sufi ciente,  multidimensionalidad, bloque de construcción de agentes, procesos de agrupamiento, externalidades de red, leyes de poder y orden, entre otras.
