Abstract

Many studies describe a relationship between social skills (SS) and the use of drugs, however, this relationship is established for some specific drugs and not established for others. This way, it becomes necessary to understand which abilities are present, or not, in the behavior repertory of drug users in order to develop strategies to decrease the problem. This study aims to analyze national and international production of drug use and social abilities of the last 10 years. The method used was a systematic review of the following databases, where 13 articles were selected: Medline, Lilacs, Ibecs, Cochrane, MedCarib, Central - Register of Clinic Essays and Scielo. As a result, most of the analyzed articles were published between the years of 2004 and 2006. The main focus of interest was the teenager and young adult population, connecting SS with risk and protection factors. In relation to the type of drug analyzed, it was found that marijuana was the substance most present in the studied articles. The conclusion is that the SS are important aspects to be considered in the drug use of different populations studied in the analyzed articles. We suggest that new empirical research should be undertaken, involving other populations.
