Objetivo: verificar se o CPI-3R, desenvolvido na Austrália, constitui um instrumento válido e confiável para medir os traços obscuros da personalidade de chefias em um contexto organizacional mexicano, bem como explorar a percepção dos subordinados sobre esses traços em seus superiores hierárquicos. Metodologia: foi analisada uma amostra não probabilística de 176 subordinados, pertencentes a diferentes níveis hierárquicos e setores, por meio da aplicação do CPI-3R e do uso de diversas técnicas estatísticas. Resultados principais: a estrutura fatorial do instrumento não replicou integralmente a reportada na Austrália; entretanto, foram identificados dois fatores consistentes e diferenciados correspondentes às subescalas de fachada adaptativa e egocentrismo impulsivo, o que sustenta parcialmente a classificação original. A subescala de inflexibilidade não apresentou confiabilidade. De forma não prevista, observou-se uma correlação negativa entre fachada adaptativa e egocentrismo impulsivo. Conclusões: os resultados indicam que os subordinados apresentam uma percepção diferenciada em relação aos seus superiores e fornecem evidências relevantes para a identificação de traços obscuros em contextos organizacionais mexicanos.
