Objective: To examine whether the CPI-3R, developed in Australia, is a valid and reliable instrument for measuring dark personality traits in supervisors within a Mexican organizational context, and to explore subordinates’ perceptions of these traits in their hierarchical superiors. Methodology: A non-probabilistic sample of 176 subordinates from different organizational levels and sectors completed the CPI-3R. The data were analyzed using a range of statistical techniques. Key findings: The factorial structure of the instrument did not fully replicate the Australian model; however, two consistent and distinct factors corresponding to the adaptive facade and impulsive egocentrism subscales were identified, partially supporting the original classification. The inflexibility subscale did not demonstrate acceptable reliability. An unanticipated finding was a negative correlation between adaptive facade and impulsive egocentrism. Conclusions: The findings suggest that subordinates hold differentiated perceptions of their superiors and provide relevant evidence for the identification of dark personality traits in Mexican organizational settings.
