Scope and Approach

Overall Mission and Objective

Universidad y Empresa (U&E) journal is a semi-annual publication founded in 1999 by the School of Administration of Universidad del Rosario. It aims to contribute to the development, critique, and dissemination of knowledge in the field of administration in its different areas, roles, and applications, in addition to its object of study—organizations.

U&E meets the aforementioned goal through the open publication and dissemination (open access) of scientific and technological research and review articles and reflection papers, which are anonymously evaluated (double-blind review) by expert peers (peer-reviewed). The said articles are characterized by their original, relevant, rigorous, and interesting nature; their strong theoretical and practical contribution; and their solid empirical and theoretical foundation.

The journal accepts and publishes articles in Spanish, English, and Portuguese from a wide range of disciplines, perspectives, approaches, methodologies, and epistemological paradigms. Its content makes it a valuable resource for researchers, lecturers, students, directors, managers, advisors, and consultants, as well as other professionals interested in the different areas, roles, and applications of the administration field and its object of study—organizations.

Thematic coverage

The Journal revolves around topics contributing to research, education, and practice in the field of administration, its various areas, and its object of study —organizations. Its coverage includes but is not limited to the following:

  • Strategy, leadership, and decision-making
  • Entrepreneurship and innovation
  • International business administration
  • Organizations and society: ethics, environment, sustainability, governance, and social responsibility
  • Administration in private, public, and solidarity sector organizations
  • Human talent
  • Logistics and operations
  • Marketing
  • Finance
  • Technologies for administration and technology management
  • Micro-, small-, and medium-sized enterprises
  • Management training
  • Theory of administration, organizational theory, organizational analysis, and behavior
  • Power, politics, and conflicts in organizations
  • Corporate epistemology, critical and de-colonial studies, and indigenous methodologies for administration and organizations

All works covering the aforementioned themes are welcome regardless of the discipline, approach, perspective, scope, paradigm, methodology, level of analysis, time–space context, and type of entrepreneurial initiative, organization, or sector considered. We particularly invite the submission of documents developing present or future administrative discussions.

Frequency (semiannually)

The Journal regularly publishes one volume per year, consisting of two issues that are edited and distributed semiannually (january-june and july-december). U&E occasionally publishes special issues, for which an open call to the community is launched.

Languages

The Journal publishes articles in Spanish, English, and Portuguese. The author must send the text in its entirety, written in either language (author’s preference). Its partial or full translation into a language other than the one chosen by the author at the time of submission is not mandatory. The work must be written in a single language. Therefore, if it contains citations from texts originally written in other language, the author must translate the content in question before submitting the article and will thus be responsible for its quality and accuracy.

If the article is accepted for publication, U&E will be in charge of asking experts to translate the title, abstract, and keywords. These will be made available to the reader in three languages: Spanish, English, and Portuguese.

Target audience

The Journal is aimed at researchers, educators and practitioners in the field of Organization and Management Studies (OMS), as well as any other person, group or institution interested in it.

Types of articles, basic structure and expected quality

U&E fundamentally publishes three types of articles:

  1. Scientific and technological research article: A document presenting the original results of completed research projects in detail. Its structure expressly comprises seven sections: 1) Introduction, 2) Literature review, 3) Methodology, 4) Results, 5) Discussion, 6) Conclusions, and 7) References.
  2. Reflection paper: A document presenting the results of concluded research from the author’s analytical, interpretative, or critical perspective; regarding a specific topic; and resorting to original sources. Its structure is explicitly divided into five sections: 1) Introduction, 2) Problem (the origin of the reflection), 3) Analysis (a structured and well-founded development of the reflection and its implications), 4) Conclusions, and 5)
  3. Review article: A document arising from completed and concluded research (and not just the introductory section or the literature review of another research article). This analyzes, systematizes, and integrates the results of published or unpublished research in a given area in the field of science or technology to account for advancement and development trends. Its structure must specifically comprise five sections. (1) Introduction; (2) Methodology (type of review: argumentative, integrative, systematic, etc.; sources, methods, and techniques implemented; collection, evaluation, selection, and synthesis, among others); (3) Results (identification of the advances made, stagnation, setbacks, restrictions, schools or trends, approaches, tendencies, tension, disagreement, gaps, assumptions; and propositions); (4) Discussion; (5) Conclusions; and (6) References. This article type is also characterized by its thorough literature review featuring at least fifty (50) references.
The three classes of articles should be characterized by having a high level of originality, relevance, rigor, interest, possibility of theoretical or practical contributions (preferably both) and theoretical or empirical foundation (preferably both). These articles should make valuable contributions to the theory, methodology, epistemology, administration education or praxis, or to the organizational phenomena understanding and intervention, and the environment in which they are carried out.

In few exceptions, other types of texts (translations, letters to the editor, etc.) may be published. This in accordance with the express request of its author to the Journal (which must be made through the letter attached to the submission of the text) and after evaluation of the convenience of doing so by the editor, who will support, if necessary, on the editorial team. For the approval of this type of texts, the level of relevance, quality, interest and contribution potential of the submitted document is considered.

The author will ensure that his work incorporates, in the corresponding place in his text, according to the typology of articles indicated, the following: objectives; problem and research question; design, methodology or basic approach implemented; findings, implications, scope and limitations and, finally, the possible future extensions of his work, as well as its value and originality.

The submitted works must be unpublished and must not be submitted to any other journal simultaneously. Their content is the sole responsibility of the authors. The Revista Universidad y Empresa (U&E) facilitates the editorial process, its transparency, rigor and quality, but the opinions and results of the published works do not compromise the Universidad del Rosario in any way.

Article submission

Papers can only be submitted through the journal’s Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, http://revistas.urosario.edu.co/index.php/empresa, U&E’s call for article submission is constantly open throughout the year. Authors understand that submitting their article to the journal does not result in any commitment to subsequently publish them. U&E’s call for article submissions is constantly open throughout the year.  The journal uses Turnitin® tool (http://turnitin.com/es/), provided by Universidad del Rosario. Any work submitted to U&E is assessed through this platform first toward ensuring its originality. We recommend authors to use the “Checklist tool before article submission to U&E.”

In addition, the community is reminded that the articles submitted to the journal must be original and unpublished and that simultaneous submission in other journals is strictly forbidden.

Since 2014, the journal has applied the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) to its articles toward facilitating the metadata management of published documents and has been capable of tracking their potential citations.

Print-on-Demand

U&E is governed by the print-on-demand model, only printing the copies required for the legal deposit.

Peer Review Submission

The U&E journal implements a content review procedure carried out by a group of expert peers (double-blind) who check for the strong academic and scientific quality of the articles under consideration.

The editors of each journal launch the call for article submission. Those who wish to participate will have to submit their proposal within the term stipulated.

  1. All articles submitted are evaluated using the Turnitin tool; if plagiarism is detected in a document, it will be withdrawn from the evaluation process, and the editor will contact the author and their affiliated institution’s Research Department.
  2. Once the article is received, each journal’s editors will confirm receipt to the author, make a record of the document, and disclose the work’s title without revealing the authors’ name. The papers will be subsequently sent to national or international peer reviewers, either internal or external to Universidad del Rosario, for their assessment. Reviewers are carefully selected by considering the manuscript’s subject and the specialized knowledge required to judge each text.
  3. The reviewers will check the articles and deliver the result of their assessment in writing, filling out the assessment form established by each journal. The review process conducted by peers will be concluded within 4–5 weeks. In case of a tie, the final decision will be made by an additional reviewer.
  4. Afterwards, it will be determined as to whether the article is approved, approved with modifications, or rejected. Where applicable, the editor will proceed to the following:
  • Inform the author of the article’s approval and begin the process of publishing the
  • When the peer reviewer indicates that an article is suitable for publication but requires some adjustments or additions, each journal’s editorial staff will send the corresponding notes to the author in writing.
  • In case of rejection, the author will be informed of the reasons provided by the anonymous peer reviewers, and the material originally submitted will be returned.
  • In any of the three preceding cases, the author will know the anonymous review’s result, which will be shared in writing.

The evaluation process begins upon document delivery and may take from 2 to 5 months. Given the journal’s publication frequency, the time for articles submitted to be published is 1 year.
