This paper offers an approach to the issue of amnesty from an international law perspective. With this aim, it begins with the identification of legal cases in the InterAmerican, European, and African systems, in which amnesty laws have been enacted within national legal systems. It continues with the verification of the way in which international instruments deal with this type of law, as well as the study of decisions of international tribunals in this matter. It constitutes a tool that helps to understand the treatment that international law gives to the topic of amnesty, from the point of view of the collective responsibility of states, and of individual international responsibility.
