Author Guidelines

The U&E journal aims to publish the results of original, relevant, rigorous, and interesting research, with high theoretical and practical contribution and solid empirical and theoretical foundation, as well as disseminating works contributing to the creation, preservation, development, critique, and dissemination of scientific, educational, and professional knowledge in the field of OMS. U&E welcomes articles that, in view of the foregoing, may be associated with multiple disciplines, perspectives, scopes, epistemological paradigms, techniques, methods, methodologies, levels of analysis, and time–space contexts. By achieving this mission, the journal seeks to contribute 1) to the development of the OMS field, 2) to the fulfillment of a stronger link between its theoretical and practical knowledge and between its researchers, educators and trainees, and 3) to the perpetuation of organizations and the improvement of societal conditions.

U&E fundamentally publishes three types of articles:

  1. Scientific and technological research article: a document presenting the original results of completed research projects in detail. Its structure expressly comprises seven sections: 1) Introduction, 2) Literature review, 3) Methodology, 4) Results, 5) Discussion, 6)Conclusions, and 7)
  2. Reflection paper: a document presenting the results of concluded research from the author’s analytical, interpretative, or critical perspective; regarding a specific topic; and resorting to original sources. Its structure is explicitly divided into five sections: 1) Introduction, 2)Problem (the origin of the reflection), 3) Analysis (a structured and well-founded development of the reflection and its implications), 4) Conclusions, and 5)
  3. Review article: a document arising from completed and concluded research (and not just the introductory section or the literature review of another research article). This analyzes, systematizes, and integrates the results of published or unpublished research in a given area in the field of science or technology to account for advancement and development trends. Its structure must specifically comprise five sections. (1) Introduction; (2) Methodology (type of review: argumentative, integrative, systematic, etc.; sources, methods, and techniques implemented; collection, evaluation, selection, and synthesis, among others); (3) Results (identification of the advances made, stagnation, setbacks, restrictions, schools or trends, approaches, tendencies, tension, disagreement, gaps, assumptions; and propositions); (4) Discussion; (5) Conclusions; and (6) This article type is also characterized by its thorough literature review featuring at least fifty (50) references.

Papers can only be submitted through the journal’s Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, http://revistas.urosario.edu.co/index.php/empresa, U&E’s call for article submission is constantly open throughout the year. Authors understand that submitting their article to the journal does not result in any commitment to subsequently publish them.

The U&E editorial staff will consider the following criteria for approving or rejecting the articles submitted in the first instance (“desk rejection”):

  • Title: centered, boldface title, and using initial capital letters in the first word only. It must be concise, preferably not longer than 15 words, and under no circumstances may exceed 20 words.
  • Authors’ names and last names: with reference to a footnote that includes a summary of each author’s resume (maximum 100 words). This must contain at least (1) the main academic degrees obtained, as well as their corresponding institutions, cities, and countries; (2) institutional affiliations (the institution and department they work in); (3) current position; (4) city and country of residence; (5) email address; and (6) the full postal address (only for the first author). When the document is uploaded, authors must provide their ORCID while the metadata is being uploaded.
  • Abstract: no longer than 200 words; it must explicitly contain information regarding the following aspects, expressed in short sentences: 1) Objectives, 2) Methodology, 3) Main results, and 4)
  • Keywords: three or four terms that facilitate document indexing.
  • Article type: out of the aforementioned three types, the category this work falls into must be stated.
  • Length and format: the article must never exceed 25 pages (including tables, pictures, and references), formatted in Letter size and using Times New Roman, 12 point font, single-spacing between lines and double-spacing between paragraphs, and margins of 2.5 cm at each side. Submitted texts must be drafted and sent in Microsoft Word format.
  • Headings and seriation: the incorporation of more than Level-3 headings is not recommended. The structure of the sections constituting the text as well as its numbering and title format, must be as follows:

1. Level 1 (boldface)

1.1. Level 2 (boldface and italics)

1.1.1 Level 3 (italics)

  • Tables and pictures: these should be included exactly in the section that mentions them, within the text (rather than at the end of the paper). If prepared by the author, they should be stated as “Created by the author” just below source. Otherwise, if adapted or modified, the exact source must be cited. If tables and illustrations are created using a program other than Microsoft Word, the original files must be attached when the file is submitted, duly identified (i.e., Table 1.jpg) by clicking the option “additional files” in the OJS
  • Equations: numbered (1), (2), etc. and preferably drafted using the editor provided by Microsoft Word.
  • Citations and bibliographic reviews: In this particular aspect, the journal follows the 7th edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA): https://apastyle.apa.org/instructional-aids/reference-guide.pdf
  • Languages: the journal publishes articles in Spanish and English. The author must send the text in its entirety (including quotations), completely written in only one of these two languages.
  • Figures: The basic guidelines of the Real Academia de la lengua española (RAE) should be followed for figures (http://lema.rae.es/dpd/srv/search?id=QHaq7I8KrD6FQAyXTS).

Authorship Statement – CRediT taxonomy

To strengthen the scientific integrity of research published by the journal, the CRediT taxonomy, established by CASRAI, will be adopted as of the second half of 2021. The article will include the description of the contributing roles of the authors who sign the publication. The level of contribution and type will be defined in accordance with the 14 contributor roles (https://casrai.org/credit/ ), with the possibility for a single author to simultaneously take on some of the following roles:

  1. Conceptualization
  2. Data curation
  3. Formal analysis – statistical techniques and data analysis
  4. Funding acquisition
  5. Investigation – research process
  6. Methodology – design and development
  7. Project administration – management and coordination
  8. Resources – supplying study materials
  9. Software – programming, design, and implementation
  10. Supervision and leadership role in planning
  11. Validation – verification
  12. Visualization – data presentation
  13. Writing – original draft
  14. Writing – review & editing
