Abstract

The incorporation, design and reforms of the recall in Ecuador are studied, addressing the failed case against President Lasso (2022) and the immediate activation of other tools: impeachment and "cross death", to promote and prevent his early departure.


The methodology includes a bibliographical and documentary analysis for the theoretical framework; the compilation and examination of the regulations of the aforementioned institutes; and an in-depth case study on Lasso's impeachment attempt.


The result is that, although the recall was created for the vertical control of the rulers, in Ecuador it obtained a counterproductive institutional design, which makes it impossible, rather than enables, early exit in a situation of serious crisis of legitimacy

Diploma de Posdoctorado de la Facultad de Derecho (UBA). Doctora por la Facultad de Derecho de la UBA (especialidad Derecho Político), Doctora en Ciencia Política (UNSAM), Magíster en Ciencia Política y Sociología (FLACSO), Licenciada en Ciencia Política (UBA). Investigadora del CONICET. Fue Becaria Doctoral y Posdoctoral del CONICET. Profesora en UBA y UNAJ. Codirectora de Proyecto UBACyT. Realizó estancias de investigación posdoctoral en la Universitat de Girona, en la Universidad de Barcelona y en la Universidad de Salamanca, con becas de la Fundación Carolina y del CONICET. Publicó libros y artículos sobre democracia, crisis de la representación, mecanismos de participación ciudadana, revocatoria de mandato, entre otros.
