Introdução: A resistência antimicrobiana (RAM) é uma das 10 principais ameaças globais à saúde pública. Estudantes de graduação médica em sua formação desempenham um papel importante para seu uso racional
Objetivo: sistematizar as investigações que avaliam o conhecimento e as práticas sobre antibióticos e resistência bacteriana em estudantes de medicina.
Metodologia: Foi realizada uma revisão sistemática da literatura seguindo as etapas de identificação, triagem, seleção e inclusão consignadas no guia PRISMA.
Resultados: Obteve-se um total de 20 estudos para a síntese quantitativa correspondendo a uma amostra de 13.997 estudantes de medicina. Destes, 39,5% consideram os antibióticos um tratamento eficaz para as infecções virais, 35,9% já se automedicaram com antibióticos e 49,1% relataram prescrevê-los recentemente.
Conclusão: Os resultados deste estudo realizado em 13 países diferentes e com 13.997 estudantes de medicina revelaram que esta população tem pouco conhecimento e más práticas sobre antibióticos. O uso desses medicamentos para doenças nas quais não são indicados, a interrupção do esquema prescrito e a automedicação foram problemas frequentes.
