Com a eclosão da pandemia da covid-19, houve um intenso processo de digitalização da vida, em decorrência de diferentes medidas restritivas e decisões de cuidado. O impacto do uso das redes sociais no bem-estar está relacionado ao contexto e ao tipo de uso. Neste artigo, analisa-se o impacto causal do uso de redes sociais no bem-estar subjetivo da população latino-americana durante a pandemia. Também estudam-se a pré-pandemia e a pós-pandemia para fins comparativos. Utiliza-se um modelo de regressão com variáveis instrumentais, o que permite considerar o efeito causal e evitar a endogeneidade de ambas as variáveis (utilizando como instrumento a qualidade do acesso à internet). Observa-se um impacto negativo do uso das redes sociais no bemestar subjetivo, que se agrava com o tempo. Esse impacto é ainda pior para mulheres e moradores de grandes cidades.
