Este artículo analiza la relación entre la desigualdad de ingresos local y el bienestar subjetivo en Latinoamérica. Para hacerlo, se estudiaron imágenes satelitales diurnas y el valor de felicidad promedio de un conjunto de más de mil aglomerados urbanos en la región. De las imágenes se extraen patrones objetivos de heterogeneidad visual utilizando redes neuronales profundas, a partir de los cuales se calcula un indicador de desigualdad en torno al centroide seleccionado. Este indicador de desigualdad pre senta ciertas ventajas respecto a los indicadores tradicionales objetivos (granularidad y periodicidad) y subjetivos (escalabilidad, consistencia y precisión). Se advierte una correlación negativa estadísticamente significativa entre estos indicadores objetivos de desigualdad y el indicador subjetivo de felicidad. Esta relación es particularmente marcada para las imágenes con un radio aproximado de 10 kilómetros, lo que sugiere que esta escala espacial capta de manera más precisa los entornos locales en los que se forman las comparaciones sociales. Asimismo, se observa una asociación negativa entre la desigualdad y el bienestar subjetivo a lo largo de toda la distribución: los aglomerados con mayores niveles de desigualdad tienden a presentar, en promedio, menores niveles de felicidad.
