Las protestas que condujeron a la renuncia del dictador egipcio Hosni Mubarak han ampliado la brecha entre los ciberoptimistas y los ciberescépticos con respecto al papel de las tecnologías digitales en los cambios sociales. Más de una década después de la Primavera Árabe, aún quedan muchas preguntas por responder sobre la base de datos empíricos. Este artículo problematiza el impacto de las tecnologías digitales, especialmente las plataformas de redes sociales, en la Revolución Egipcia. Para ello, se combinan fuentes primarias y secundarias en un estudio de caso sobre las protestas. Los resultados muestran que Facebook se utilizó para movilizar a los manifestantes y difundir información dentro del país. Twitter estableció las conexiones entre el deseo de cambio social y sus partidarios internacionales, principalmente los occidentales. YouTube amplificó las historias de martirio en una conexión entre el periodismo tradicional y el periodismo ciudadano. De este modo, el internet funcionó como centro neurálgico para la articulación de proyectos políticos en flujos internos y externos de insatisfacción social que galvanizaron la revolución.
