Focus and Scope

The Estudios Socio-Jurídicos journal was first published in 1999. Affiliated with the School of Jurisprudence of Universidad del Rosario (Colombia), this is a bi-annual publication, wherein an Editor, an Editorial Committee, and a Scientific Committee currently work, ensuring the relevance and quality of the articles published. The journal welcomes research and review articles and reflection papers in three languages—Spanish, English, and Portuguese—and related to fields such as legal theory, legal sociology, and legal anthropology, as well as the traditional areas of the legal sphere (public law, private law, criminal law, human rights, and international law) from interdisciplinary perspectives.

Revista Estudios Socio-Jurídicos is an academic journal reviewed under the double-blind modality, which presents the results of research in fields such as legal theory, legal sociology, and legal anthropology, as well as the traditional areas of the legal sphere (public law, private law, criminal law, human rights, and international law) from interdisciplinary perspectives, on a semi-annual basis. Part of its thematic collection includes the publication of the following special editions: “Justicia Transicional: memoria colectiva, reparación, justicia y democracia (Transitional Justice: Collective Memory, Reparation, Justice, and Democracy); Derechos Económicos Sociales y Culturales (Social and Cultural Economic Rights); Derechos, Sociedad y Constitución: veinte años de la Constitución colombiana de 1991 (Rights, Society, and Constitution: Twenty Years of the Constitution of Colombia of 1991); Violencia y Justicia (Violence and Justice); Seguridad Ciudadana (Citizen Security); Procesos de paz, deberes de los Estados y derechos de las víctimas (Peace Processes, the Duties of the States, and the Rights of Victims); Tierras, Guerra y Estado (Lands, War, and State); Género, Discriminación y Violencia (Gender, Discrimination, and Violence).”

Peer Review Process

The editorial staff will conduct a first screening to assess the relevance of the document submitted with regard to the journal’s approach, the unpublished nature of the content, the proper source citation as per the 7th edition of the American Psychological Association (APA) rules, in addition to the originality and plagiarism checks performed using Turnitin software.

This first assessment will define the articles that will be assigned to academic peers, one being international and the other local, who are subject matter experts. They will, in turn, determine the articles that are relevant for publication according to the specific criteria provided by the review form.

For the evaluation process to be “double-blind,” two expert reviewers will be asked to take part, one of them international, when available at willing, and a national expert, who may be either internal or from external research universities or institutes. This way, a transparent process, free from conflicts of interest, is guaranteed.

The author will be informed of the review’s result within a period not exceeding 6 months from the date of receipt. If the review process takes longer than the time stipulated in the publication standards, the editor or person in charge must inform the author of this situation.

Peer-reviews deliver three types of results. If the document is accepted “with no modifications” or “minor modifications,” it means that the article requires minimal review by the author within a week to adjust data and specific aspects as suggested by the reviewer. Acceptance “with significant modifications” implies that the article, despite having rich content and research of scientific interest, requires structural adjustments or substantial changes with regard to objective fulfillment, methodology, and analysis of results, among others; the maximum term for text changes must not exceed 4 weeks. In case of disagreement between the peers’ opinions, the editorial staff will assign a third peer. Once the corrected version of the manuscript is submitted, it will undergo the peer review process again to check the changes and define whether its publication is suitable for the journal. If the second review is not approved, authors will be notified in the shortest time possible. The third type includes articles that definitely fail to meet the research and content expectations. These article reviews will be sent to the authors for them to correct and rewrite the document, either for its publication in a different journal or its resubmission to Estudios Socio-Jurídicos. If the authors wish to resubmit the article, they must send a letter explaining the changes made to the document for reviewers to have a clear idea of the new research approach at the time of re-evaluating it. The review process may last up to 6 months.
