Pesquisas existentes em países desenvolvidos mostram que pessoas com maiores níveis de habilidades cognitivas e socioemocionais obtêm os melhores resultados no mercado laboral. No entanto, se desconhece-se se esses resultados se podem extrapolar a países de renda média e baixa. Neste documento, exploramos como as habilidades cognitivas e socioemocionais em adultos colombianos (idade entre 15 e 64) se relacionam com suas condições laborais. Controlando por números fatores distorcivos em um inquérito transversal, encontramos que adultos com altos níveis de habilidades obtêm os melhores resultados no mercado laboral. As habilidades cognitivas e socioemocionais se relacionam com diferentes indicadores. Adultos com maiores níveis de habilidades cognitivas têm melhores trabalhos (com salários maiores, formais e mais provável que sejam empregos altamente qualificados) e são mais suscetíveis a completar sua educação terciaria. As habilidades socioemocionais se relacionam, ainda que em menor medida, com ter um melhor trabalho. No entanto, se relacionam estreitamente com a probabilidade de ser ativo no mercado laboral e com a probabilidade de completar sua educação terciaria. Os nossos resultados sugerem que os adultos colombianos com maiores níveis de habilidades cognitivas e socioemocionais conseguem os melhores resultados no mercado laboral e que intervenções de política que facilitem o desenvolvimento de ambos os tipos de habilidades poderiam ter consequências positivas.
