The present document is a reflection, as a result of a research conducted for a period of 3 years with the Hispanic community of Emporia, a city in eastern Kansas. A state in which the migratory influx increased during the last 30 years, in a phenomenon clearly related to the development of the agri-food industry. The article proposes to approach the process of adaptation of heterodox Hispanic immigrants, particularly of Mexican origin, from a communicational perspective, observing such adaptation as a process of acquisition of a dominant cultural capital, maintaining certain practices, as well as developing, adopting, and generating new cultural and communicational practices that allow immigrants to act within the receiving social space.
