This article analyzes the integration between knowledge-intensive business services (KIBS) and manufacturing firms, assuming this integration generates higher local economic growth and competitiveness. This was done using spatial point pattern analysis methods. Two metropolitan areas were considered, Toluca and Querétaro, both near Mexico City but with different industrial development patterns. Despite differences, results suggest that knowledge-intensive services are linked to transport industries, which are the engine of Mexican exports and key in their consolidation in global value chains.
