Focus and Scope

APL publishes new empirical contributions and, exceptionally high-quality systematic literature reviews. Articles are published in Spanish, English, or Portuguese, including an abstract and keywords (obtained from the American Psychological Association’s Thesaurus) in its original language and in English. All articles submitted must follow the American Psychological Association’s Publication Style Guidelines (7th edition, 2020, https://apastyle.apa.org/).

Manuscripts are evaluated through a double-blind peer-review process. The APL journal makes use of the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, which is free for readers, and by policy, there are no costs involved for authors with regard to revision, peer review, and publication processes either.

The recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) (JM11891) are followed:  http://publicationethics.org/members/avances-en-psicologia-latinoamericana

Peer Review Process

The editorial team assesses the relevance of the manuscripts submitted and checks their compliance with the requirements outlined in the “Rules for authors” section. Manuscripts that meet these requirements are subsequently assigned to an associate editor expert in the corresponding field, who will decide whether to proceed to the peer-review process. To this end, manuscripts must meet the submission criteria established for submission to the peer-review phase, otherwise they will be returned to their authors.

This double-blind process is anonymous, and the only persons who will know the identities of both the author and the reviewer are the journal’s editor and the associate editor, who are in charge of sending correspondence. Manuscripts submitted to APL may be checked for originality using any specialized software (such as Turnitin).

The initial review period may last from 4 to 8 weeks, depending on the manuscript’s compliance with the publication regulations specified by the journal. If all submission criteria are met, the peer-review process may take place within 6 to 12 months, depending on several aspects, such as the peer response and the agility of authors to address their recommendations. In some cases, manuscripts may be subject to a second round of peer-review.

When authors wish to submit articles that have been rejected by other journals’ peer-reviews, the concepts indicated by previous revisions may be attached to their submitted manuscripts as well.

Open Access Policy and Publication Fees

This journal provides free and immediate access to your content under the principle of making research available to the public for free to promote increased exchange of global knowledge. This means that no fees are charged to authors for their article’s management, evaluation, and publication.

Anti-plagiarism Policy

Manuscripts subjected to review by Universidad del Rosario’s journals must be original and unpublished. The editorial team will review the authenticity of all manuscripts submitted to the journal through different means, such as the Turnitin tool. When an article is subjected to review, the authors accept that the document will be examined toward avoiding plagiarism of any kind and promoting ethical policies in publications.

  • The version published by the editor (“published version”) needs to be included.

The Journal's History

The APL journal was founded by Dr. Rubén Ardila in 1982 under the name Avances en Psicología Clínica Latinoamericana (ISSN: 0120-3797), used until 2003. Its current name was implemented in 2004 (ISSN: 0120-3797), and in 2007, the Fundación para el Avance de la Psicología ceased to publish it, which is when Universidad del Rosario took over. In the same year, its issues began to be published on a semi-annual basis (in June and December), replacing its original annual frequency. In 2013, two additional milestones were achieved: the journal became an exclusively digital and quarterly publication (ISSNe 2145-4515), with three issues per year. Since 2004, the journal has included the Galería Latinoamericana de Arte en Portada (Front Page Latin American Art Gallery) section, bringing into focus a different Latin American artist, who may also be a psychologist, each year.
