Las Funciones Ejecutivas (FE) son procesos cognitivos de control que intervienen en distintos dominios, incluyendo la regulación emocional. Si bien se espera que estos se relacionen con habilidades como la Tolerancia al Distrés (TD), hay escasos estudios sobre su asociación en niños y también pocos que hayan evaluado el rol de cada FE en esta habilidad. Este estudio examinó la relación entre FE (memoria de trabajo, inhibición y flexibilidad cognitiva) y TD en niños de edad escolar. Se realizó un estudio correlacional, con una muestra de 48 niños de 7 a 9 años de edad. FE y TD fueron evaluadas mediante cuestionarios de reporte de padres. La TD mostró una correlación elevada con la flexibilidad cognitiva, y correlaciones moderadas con la memoria de trabajo e inhibición. Asimismo, al considerar la contribución conjunta de cada FE, solo la flexibilidad cognitiva predijo significativamente la TD. Estos hallazgos brindan evidencia sobre la relación entre las FE y la TD en niños de edad escolar, destacando el rol de la flexibilidad cognitiva, y resaltan la necesidad de estudios que permitan comprender mejor esta relación en esta etapa del desarrollo.
