Abstract

This study explores the history of public places inBogotá and thcir changing association with different events and protagonists during the colony era and the first hundred years of the Republic. The study draws upon a content analysis of historians' writings and artists' works. The pastofthe city is discussed as an important element in encouraging pla­ ce identity through history in Bogotá's citizens. It concludcs with recommendations for historie elements to be included as affordances in the educating city strategy that is being developed  by Bogotá's municipal administration.
