An instrument aimed at revoking the election of public officials was introduced in Colom­ bia in 1994 as a mechanism to strengthen local democracies. 1bis artide analyzes ten cases which have taken place in the country until the year 2000. On the basis of registered electoral data, the opinion of sorne experts, and the testimony of actors directly involved in the eses, the difficulties, achievements and limitations of these processes will be presetned. Ingeneral, what is observed is the low use of the instrument, low voter turnout, and a low political impact of the instrument. Finall sorne recommendations are presented which seek to contribute to urgent and necessary adjustments.
