Abstract

The objective is to analyze and understand the insertion of the slow movement in the context of a local community, in the context of modernity and its dysfunctions in a “glocal” society, under the theoretical lens of Norbert Elias’ sociological theory and his reflections on time. The
case study in Rio Doce (Minas Gerais, Brazil) was applied to verify the impacts of the territorial development of the slow city strategic plan, made available to the public management of the studied city, inspired by the guidelines of the slow city movement, through action research.
The process of conducting the action research involved several steps that can be verified from the analysis data, from which expectations emerged with the movement and, simultaneously, withthe historical construction of the municipality, which led to the conclusion that the slow
movement is oriented toward more democratic and dialogical agendas, without, however, breaking with the logic of modernity and its consequences.
