Os protestos que causaram a renúncia do ditador do Egito, Hosni Mubarak, alargaram o fosso entre os ciber-otimistas e os ciber-céticos sobre o impacto das tecnologias digitais nas mudanças sociais. Mais de uma década após a Primavera Árabe, muitas perguntas ainda não foram respondidas com base em dados empíricos. Este artigo problematiza o impacto das tecnologias digitais, em especial das plataformas de redes sociais, na Revolução Egípcia. Para isto são combinadas fontes primárias e secundárias em um estudo de caso sobre os protestos. Os resultados revelam que o Facebook foi a plataforma utilizada na mobilização para os protestos de rua e para a difusão de informações dentro do país. Já o Twitter estabeleceu as conexões entre o desejo de mudança social e os seus multiplicadores internacionais, sobretudo no Ocidente. O YouTube amplificou histórias de martírio numa conexão entre o jornalismo tradicional e o jornalismo cidadão. Assim, a internet operou como o centro nevrálgico para a articulação de projetos políticos em fluxos internos e externos de insatisfação social que galvanizaram a revolução.
