Focus and Scope

The Electronic Yearbook of Studies in Social Communication 'Disertaciones' (ISSN: 1856-9536) is a peer-reviewed, open-access digital publication indexed in Scopus. It is a joint initiative of Universidad del Rosario (Colombia), Universidad de Los Andes (Department of Social Communication, Venezuela), and Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain (Group for Dialectical Mediation of Social Communication - MDCS). The journal is published biannually and accepts manuscripts in Spanish, English, and Portuguese, with no publication fees for authors (APC).

Disertaciones aims to present original empirical research in the field of Social Communication, specifically within the thematic lines of: (i) Society and Information and Communication Technologies; (ii) Communication and Politics; (iii) Journalism; and (iv) Communication and Culture.

It is primarily intended for researchers, students, and professors in the international academic community engaged in communication research, with the goal of contributing to and influencing the scientific dissemination of studies in the field.

Peer Review Process

Disertaciones evaluates submitted contributions through a double-blind peer-review process. Once a manuscript is submitted, the Editor sends it to two or more expert reviewers in the field (usually external to the publishing institutions) for a rigorous arbitration process. In case of conflicting evaluations, a third reviewer is consulted. Each reviewer may accept or reject the article. If accepted, reviewers may suggest structural and content changes to the author. In such cases, a second round of review takes place, allowing the author to adapt the manuscript to the journal's editorial standards. The maximum review period is three months, although this may vary depending on reviewer and author availability. The final decision on the acceptance or rejection of a manuscript lies with the Editor, supported by the Editorial Team and based on the collected reviews. The Editor must inform the author(s) about the evaluation and selection process.

Open Access and Publication Fees

This journal provides immediate open access to its content based on the principle that making research freely available to the public fosters a greater global exchange of knowledge. Therefore, no charges are incurred by authors for the management, evaluation, or publication of their manuscripts.

Committed to the dissemination of scientific knowledge to non-specialist audiences, Universidad del Rosario’s journals also promote their content through the channel www.lasillavacia.com/iq and various national and international indexing and registration systems.

Journal History

The journal was founded in 2008 through the collaborative work of students from Universidad de Los Andes (Venezuela) and professors from various Venezuelan universities. In 2010, the MDCS group from Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain) enthusiastically joined the effort, followed unofficially in 2011 by a significant group from Universidad del Norte (Colombia). Each issue has been coordinated by guest editors from different Ibero-American institutions, resulting in contributions, reviewers, and readership from diverse countries. The journal is the result of this scientific collaboration — the outcome of a heterogeneous group of researchers who have contributed to its growth. Since 2015, Disertaciones counts on Universidad del Rosario (Colombia) as a new editorial partner, joining the network of institutions behind this publishing project.
