Este artículo tiene como objetivo realizar una revisión sistemática referente a la utilización de la teoría de actor red (tar) como referente metodológico en la investigación de las ciencias sociales. Para este fin, se realiza una búsqueda basada en la metodología del Scoping Review en tres bases de datos, usando como criterio de selección la utilización de términos de referencia “actor red” en título, palabras clave y resumen; se filtra las investigaciones relacionadas con colectivos y redes donde se use la tar como referente metodológico y se cataloga por su campo de estudio; finalmente, se procede a señalar los elementos comunes de las categorías. Como síntesis, se señala las posibilidades y limitaciones de este referente. Concluimos que la utilización de la tar requiere asumir una postura ontológica que se basa en la comprensión de la realidad como una red de actores simétricos que agencian a otros, transformando las referencias que los incluyen, a partir de procesos de mediación y traducción, que pueden ser estudiados desde el empirismo radical, poniéndola como una alternativa de estudio que puede describir, analizar e intervenir las redes, desde una comprensión de los actores que la componen.
