Fascist Rationality within the Libertarian Ideology: A Critical Reading of the Rise of Javier Milei

The election of Javier Milei as Argentina’s president marks a historic milestone, not only due to its impact on national politics but also as a symptom of the global rise of so-called “alt-right” movements, whose discourses and practices revive, in contemporary terms, the memory of the emergence of fascisms during the first half of the 20th century. This paper presents a critical analysis of Milei’s libertarian project as a contemporary manifestation of rational fascism, understood not as a replication of historical fascism but as a reactivation of certain core ideological elements in new forms. The article explores how, rather than being a paradox, these anti-democratic tendencies are deeply embedded in certain strands of contemporary liberalism, particularly in its libertarian variant.
