Scope and Approach

Desafíos is an open access bi-annual journal that disseminates articles, reflection papers, and reviews in Spanish, English, and Portuguese. Just as a specialized publication would, it targets researchers and scientists in the Political Science and International Relations fields and related disciplines.

The objective of Desafíos is to disseminate unpublished, relevant, and high-quality articles about research conducted on Political Science and International Relations and related disciplines among the academic and professional community, written by Colombian and foreign authors. The manuscripts submitted to the journal are reviewed under the double-blind modality by highly renowned academic peers.

The journal seeks to meet the needs of our changing world by conducting thorough analyses and opening spaces for debate and discussion on thematic areas presented on a 6-monthly basis, consistent with the present-day reality. The journal welcomes original articles and bibliographic reviews covering every bi-annual thematic area associated with the Political Science and International Relations fields.

Peer-Review Process

  1. Desafíos constantly receives manuscripts for the general section. A widespread call will go out for manuscript submission for the thematic section; those who wish to participate will have a previously stipulated limited timeframe to send their proposal.
  2. Upon manuscript receipt, the Open Journal Systems (OJS) will send an automatic notification to the author. The coordination team will check whether this article has been previously published or not by using the Turnitin software package. The journal’s editor reserves the right to reject manuscripts showing persistent signs of non-authenticity. After that, if the editorial staff considers the manuscript to meet the quality elements required, the document will be anonymously sent to an external reviewer. Reviewer(s) will be carefully chosen on the basis of the article theme and their specialized knowledge in each subject.
  3. External reviewer(s) will review the articles and send the result of their assessment in writing, filling out the journal’s assessment form. The review process conducted by external peers will take 4–6 months.
  4. The article’s acceptance, rejection, or return for adjustments or changes will be subsequently established.
  5. Where appropriate, the editorial coordination team will proceed to do the following:
  • Inform the author of the article’s acceptance and initiate the process for the text’s
  • In case of rejection, the author will be informed of the reasons that prevented its publication as provided by the anonymous peer reviewer.
  • When the peer reviewer finds that an article is suitable for publication albeit requiring some adjustments or additions, the editorial coordination team will send the corresponding notes to the author in writing.
  • In any of the three cases above, the author will know the anonymous review’s result, which will be shared in writing by the Journal’s editorial coordination team.
  • Under no circumstances will the final results of the review process be subject to appeal.
