Diversos escritos exploran la innovación organizacional y relacionan su efecto en el desempeño organizacional. Sin embargo, pocos estudios, por un lado, toman en cuenta la innovación técnica y la innovación administrativa como dimensiones de la innovación organizacional, y por otro lado, utilizan estas dimensiones para analizar su efecto en el desempeño organizacional. En este trabajo, los autores analizan la influencia de la innovación –incluidas las dos dimensiones señaladas– sobre el desempeño organizacional. Adicionalmente, los autores examinan el comportamiento de las características organizacionales como variable moderadora de esta relación. El estudio fue aplicado a las empresas del sector servicios. Los resultados indican que la innovación en general y la innovación técnica influyen en el desempeño organizacional, no así la innovación administrativa, locual refuerza el planteamiento de que las empresas deben mejorar la baja percepción de la importancia de la innovación administrativa para conseguir mejores desempeños.
