En el Trastorno de Estrés Postraumático (TEPT) es común la ocurrencia de síntomas asociados a imágenes mentales que remiten al evento traumático. Estas imá- genes tienen un impacto emocional bastante intenso, una vez que pueden manifestarse de manera intrusiva y generar una sensación de revivencia del trauma. De esta manera, se han estudiado técnicas de terapia cognitivo-conductual (TCC) que utilizan las imágenes mentales como intervención terapéutica. El objetivo de este estudio fue revisar de forma sistemática los efectos del uso de imágenes mentales como un recurso de la TCC para el TEPT. Fueron identificados ocho artículos publicados entre los años de 2001 y 2012 en las bases de datos PubMed, PsycNet y Web of Science. Las intervenciones de los grupos experimentales presentaron una diferencia estadística significativa en cinco de los ocho estudios seleccionados. Sin embargo, aún es necesario realizar más pesquisas sobre sus efectos en virtud del número limitado de estudios que ha sido localizado en esta revisión sistemática.
